In the aftermath of the Abdullah debacle in GE2008, Utusan Malaysia and Bernama became the two media organisations that stoked political hatred, pitting Malays against non-Malays.

We took Khalid at face value and queried Yong Soo Heong, the Editor-in-Chief of Bernama. He faxed us this letter yesterday, which I ( Jeff Ooi ) reproduce verbatim (click on title ):

PETANG Rabu 12 Mac 2008, empat hari setelah Negara dikejutkan dengan keputusan Pilihanraya Umum ke XII, Ahli Parlimen Jerlun YB Dato’ Mukhriz Mahathir telah menghantar sepucuk surat peribadi meminta PM Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi melepaskan semua jawatan termasuk Presiden UMNO, Pengerusi Barisan Nasional dan Perdana Menteri Malaysia.

The Malaysian electorate's rejection of BN in key areas has serious consequences on our ability to execute our national development plans. We have won enough seats to form a federal government by simple majority, but because of our losses, including our stunning defeat in the Malay heartland states of Kedah and Kelantan, people are now saying that UMNO has lost its legitimacy to represent the Malays. The other Barisan component parties have already lost their leadership role as representatives of the other major races of this country.

So remember who put you where you are today. Remember who gave you your job. The rakyat can hire and the rakyat can fire. We, the rakyat, made you and we, the rakyat, can break you. Just remember that and with God as our witness we shall not fail to do that if you fail to do what you promised to do.
