THINKING OUT LOUD

A couple of years ago I had set up a wifi system around my house but it was down, I am thinking of making another one and I am going to name it "wifi republic".

I am going to re-organize my blogs too, now I am testing some templates, trying and testing them at this stage. I am trying to fully utilized the latest blogspot editor. Not doubt that they are better with many needs that are taken care of. However the new blogspot editor lack fluidity where we can used different blog templates for different categories of posts or entries.

However I had thought of this new format. Try
anak matlesen to see the new format. The present PERWI is slightly messy as I had attempted to master the new blogspot editor. I think by doing that I had taken extra "memories".

I am still in the learning curve and I may not proceed with the present idea for I have to evaluate either to follow the existing system that blogspot new editor provide or do the necessary such as amending the html on the free template that I had obtained satisfactorily to get a system that I want.

U.S. Aid to Musharraf is Largely Untraceable Cash Transfers

..........

In fact, however, a considerable amount of the money the U.S. gives to Pakistan is administered not through U.S. agencies or joint U.S.-Pakistani programs. Instead, the U.S. gives Musharraf's government about $200 million annually and his military $100 million monthly in the form of direct cash transfers. Once that money leaves the U.S. Treasury, Musharraf can do with it whatever he wants. He needs only promise in a secret annual meeting that he'll use it to invest in the Pakistani people. And whatever happens as the result of Rice's review, few Pakistan watchers expect the cash transfers to end.

About $10.58 billion has gone to Pakistan since 9/11. That puts Pakistan in an elite category of U.S. foreign-aid recipients: only Israel, Egypt and Jordan get more or comparable U.S. funding.

What Has Bush Done?

Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev

In international affairs Gorbachev oversaw the withdrawal of the Red Army from Afghanistan, a great improvement of relations with the USA and European Community, and the normalization of relations with China. In Eastern Europe in 1989 he accepted the trade union movement Solidarity's electoral victory in Poland and then encouraged the overthrow of hard-line regimes in East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, and Romania, while maintaining a policy of strict non-intervention once revolutions had started. He co-operated with the US-led UN forces during the Gulf War against Iraq in 1990 – 1, even though it was a former Soviet ally.

He may be accused of breaking up the USSR but he has done many good things that the world remembered including his glasnost and perestroika. He was involved actively in SALT (Strategic Arm Limitations Talks) and START ( Strategic Arm Reduction Talks). He also advocated a nuclear arm free world. The then British PM and the US President promised not to incorporate the Warsaw Pact countries into NATO, a promise they never kept.

Since 1991 Gorbachev has been head of the Moscow-based "Gorbachev Fund", a centre for the study of international relations.

BUT WHAT HAS BUSH DONE?

"There is simply no stomach for it in the Pentagon, and a lot of people question whether such an attack would be effective or even possible.”

Castro: Bush sparks war and famine

Wed, 24 Oct 2007 05:27:15
Castro criticizes US policies
In an essay titled 'Bush, Hunger and Death', Fidel Castro has accused Bush of threatening the world with nuclear war and massive famine.

"The danger of a massive world famine is aggravated by Mr. Bush's recent initiative to transform foods into fuel," Castro wrote, referring to US support for alternative energy initiatives using corn and other food crops to produce biofuels.

In his brief essay Castro went on to write that by "calling on strategic security principles, Bush threatens humanity with World War III, this time using atomic weapons."

Castro has lashed out at Washington a day before Bush plans to announce new strategies in US policy to draw Cuba away from communism.

US Dollar Shows Little Hope for Rebound on Further Record-Lows

Written by David Rodriguez, Currency Analyst

The US dollar continued to set record lows against the Euro and Canadian dollar, defying calls for a worthwhile correction on unflappable anti-greenback sentiment. Limited economic data on the day left currency traders to force movements off of broader speculative interest, and dollar-selling remained the dominant theme in broader currency markets. In fact, the downtrodden buck fell against all major foreign counterparts on a daily basis.

Peace as portrayed by Washington

Tue, 06 Nov 2007 14:41:21
By Bita Ghaffari, Press TV, Tehran

Washington's plan to host a Middle East PEACE conference has raised many eyebrows in the Muslim world, prompting a large number of political figures and analysts to express cynicism about the sincerity of US intentions. ....

One has to bear in mind the US fragile economic conditions as testified by the steady fall in the dollar against a broad range of currencies including to a record low decline against the euro of $1.45, the prospects of recession in the world's largest economy and its colossal budget deficit of $770 billion.

Add to this the fact that the US leads the international arms market, recording $16.9 billion worth of arms sales in 2006.

Sizeable amounts of money injected into the US economy through drug trade should not be downplayed either. As Leuren Moret, an American expert on radiation and public health issues, points out, “Over $850 billion a year in drug money in the US is the CIA cash-flow through the US economy. The US economy would collapse without it.”

Join the pieces of puzzle together and you will simply arrive at the conclusion that what the US needs more than anything else in the Middle East is war and not peace. Conflict and chaos are what can help the world's largest economy keep its lucrative drug and arms business running.

Gene 'links breastfeeding to IQ'

Breastfeeding
The government advises breastfeeding for first six months
A single gene influences whether breastfeeding improves a child's intelligence, say London researchers.

Children with one version of the FADS2 gene scored seven points higher in IQ tests if they were breastfed.

But the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences study found breastfeeding had no effect on the IQ of children with a different version.

The gene in question helps break down fatty acids from the diet, which have been linked with brain development.

Seven points difference is enough to put the child in the top third of the class, the researchers said.

Azizah: Penamatan Jawatan Tun Ahmad Fairuz Bukan Pengganti Suruhanjaya Diraja

02 November 2007

US experts warn against Iran sanctions

Imposing new sanctions against Iran hurts the US.
The US think-tanks have warned that imposing sanctions against Iran's oil sector could hurt the United States' economy more than Iran's.

With oil prices at record levels, the US has little room to maneuver in imposing new sanctions against Iran, the AP reported.

"If Iran sees USD 100 a barrel oil, Iran is likely to conclude, and it may well be true, that no matter how severe the US sanctions are. . . [Iran can stand them]'' said Matthew Levitt, a former US Treasury Department terrorism expert, who is now with the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

The Three Points of The Amman Message

(in English, as modified and ratified by the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, June 2006 - click on the title to get to the website)

In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful

May peace and blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammad and his pure and noble family

(1) Whosoever is an adherent to one of the four Sunni schools (Mathahib) of Islamic jurisprudence ( Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi`i and Hanbali ), the two Shi'i schools of Islamic jurisprudence ( Ja`fari and Zaydi ), the Ibadi school of Islamic jurisprudence and the Thahiri school of Islamic jurisprudence, is a Muslim. Declaring that person an apostate is impossible and impermissible. Verily his (or her) blood, honour, and property are inviolable. Moreover, in accordance with the Shaykh Al-Azhar's fatwa, it is neither possible nor permissible to declare whosoever subscribes to the Ash`ari creed or whoever practices real Tasawwuf (Sufism) an apostate. Likewise, it is neither possible nor permissible to declare whosoever subscribes to true Salafi thought an apostate.
Equally, it is neither possible nor permissible to declare as apostates any other group of Muslims who believes in God, Glorified and Exalted be He, and His Messenger (may peace and blessings be upon him), the pillars of faith (Iman), and the five pillars of Islam, and does not deny any necessarily self-evident tenet of religion.

(2) There exists more in common between the various schools of Islamic jurisprudence than there is difference between them. The adherents to the eight schools of Islamic jurisprudence are in agreement as regards the basic principles of Islam. All believe in Allah (God), Glorified and Exalted be He, the One and the Unique; that the Noble Qur'an is the Revealed Word of God preserved and protected by God, Exalted be He, from any change or aberration; and that our master Muhammad, may blessings and peace be upon him, is a Prophet and Messenger unto all mankind. All are in agreement about the five pillars of Islam: the two testaments of faith (shahadatayn); the ritual prayer (salat); almsgiving (zakat); fasting the month of Ramadan (sawm), and the Hajj to the sacred house of God (in Mecca). All are also in agreement about the foundations of belief: belief in Allah (God), His angels, His scriptures, His messengers, and in the Day of Judgment, in Divine Providence in good and in evil. Disagreements between the 'ulama (scholars) of the eight schools of Islamic jurisprudence are only with respect to the ancillary branches of religion (furu`) and some fundamentals ( usul) [of the religion of Islam]. Disagreement with respect to the ancillary branches of religion (furu`) is a mercy. Long ago it was said that variance in opinion among the 'ulama (scholars) "is a mercy".

(3) Acknowledgement of the schools of Islamic jurisprudence (Mathahib) within Islam means adhering to a fundamental methodology in the issuance of fatwas: no one may issue a fatwa without the requisite qualifications of knowledge. No one may issue a fatwa without adhering to the methodology of the schools of Islamic jurisprudence. No one may claim to do unlimited Ijtihad and create a new opinion or issue unacceptable fatwas that take Muslims out of the principles and certainties of the Shari`ah and what has been established in respect of its schools of jurisprudence.

Iran: nuclear arms against our belief

Mon, 05 Nov 2007 20:47:29
The Islamic republic has emphasized nuclear arms have no place in its defense doctrine, as Iran is against weapons of mass destruction.

The Iranian embassy in China released a statement on Monday, denouncing accusations made by the Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni against Tehran's nuclear program.

'The Leader of the Islamic Revolution and other Iranian officials have reiterated that nuclear arms have no place in Iran's defense doctrine, as such weapons are against our laws and religious beliefs,' the statement said.

The statement added that the Zionist regime's aggressive and outrageous policies are causing instability and uncertainty in the Middle East.

In a bid to secure Beijing's support for imposing further sanctions against Iran, Livni alleged that Tehran is pursuing nuclear weapons programs. However, Livni failed to lobby China's support, as Chinese officials announced later that they are committed to a diplomatic resolution to Iran's nuclear standoff.

U.S. Focus on Ahmadinejad Puzzles Iranians

Political analysts here ( Iran ) say they are surprised at the degree to which the West focuses on their president, saying that it reflects a general misunderstanding of their system.

Unlike in the United States, in Iran the president is not the head of state nor the commander in chief. That status is held by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader, whose role combines civil and religious authority. At the moment, this president’s power comes from two sources, they say: the unqualified support of the supreme leader, and the international condemnation he manages to generate when he speaks up.

“The United States pays too much attention to Ahmadinejad,” said an Iranian political scientist who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal. “He is not that consequential.”

Google’s OpenSocial: What it means

Google’s open social networking platform play is the buzz of the blogosphere tonight. (see Techmeme). Indeed, it is called OpenSocial in that the set of APIs allows developers to create applications that work on any social network that joins Google’s open party. So far, besides Google’s Orkut social net, LinkedIn, hi5, XING, Friendster, Plaxo and Ning (see Marc Andreessen’s post) have joined the party.

Oracle and salesforce.com are also supporting Google’s OpenSocial efforts, which indicates that they have plans to add social networking elements to their application platforms. OpenSocial will officially launch on Thursday.

Plaxo emailed a statement about OpenSocial this evening, getting ahead of the stampede:

“Dynamic profiles redefine what users should expect in terms of how they can represent themselves in a social or business network,” said Todd Masonis, Co-Founder and VP of Products for Plaxo. “We believe that users should have full control over what they share with whom – and that the catalog of widgets that they can choose from should be as open and diverse as the web itself. We are excited to support in dynamic profiles any application written to Google’s just–launched OpenSocial APIs. ”

According to TechCrunch, which first reported on Google’s larger social networking ambitions, OpenSocial consists of APIs for profile information, friend information (social graph) and activities, such as a news feed. OpenSocial users Javascript and HTML rather than a markup language as Facebook does.

Google Big Mobilre Splash -Handicapping winners & losers

The reports about Google’s Android phone software are multiplying at a rapid rate. The New York Times did a big profile of Andy Rubin, the guy behind Google’s mobile plans (you don’t think that access would have been granted if this launch wasn’t happening do you?). Rubin joined Google when the search giant bought his company–Android–in 2005. News.com’s Tom Krazit reports that Google will announce its mobile phone software stack Monday and has some detail on the 30 companies lined up as partners.

But once the details emerge the real handicapping begins. What’s the impact of Google’s mobile moves? Will Google really reshape the wireless industry? Here’s a look at some of the winners and losers and a few companies left on the fence:

Details Revealed :Google OpenSosial To Launch Thursday

Michael Arrington

Details emerged today on Google’s broad social networking ambitions, first reported here in late September, with a follow up earlier this week. The new project, called OpenSocial (URL will go live on Thursday), goes well beyond what we’ve previously reported. It is a set of common APIs that application developers can use to create applications that work on any social networks (called “hosts”) that choose to participate.

What they haven’t done is launch yet another social network platform. As more and more of these platforms launch, developers have difficult choices to make. There are costs associated with writing and maintaining applications for these social networks. Most developers will choose one or two platforms and ignore the rest, based on a simple cost/benefit analysis.

Google wants to create an easy way for developers to create an application that works on all social networks. And if they pull it off, they’ll be in the center, controlling the network.

What They’re Launching......
