THINKING OUT LOUD

A couple of years ago I had set up a wifi system around my house but it was down, I am thinking of making another one and I am going to name it "wifi republic".

I am going to re-organize my blogs too, now I am testing some templates, trying and testing them at this stage. I am trying to fully utilized the latest blogspot editor. Not doubt that they are better with many needs that are taken care of. However the new blogspot editor lack fluidity where we can used different blog templates for different categories of posts or entries.

However I had thought of this new format. Try
anak matlesen to see the new format. The present PERWI is slightly messy as I had attempted to master the new blogspot editor. I think by doing that I had taken extra "memories".

I am still in the learning curve and I may not proceed with the present idea for I have to evaluate either to follow the existing system that blogspot new editor provide or do the necessary such as amending the html on the free template that I had obtained satisfactorily to get a system that I want.

US veto blocks UN anti-Israel resolution

Sun, 28 Dec 2008 08:17:23 GMT

The UN Security Council has been unable to force an end to Israeli attacks against Gaza due to the intervention of the United States.

Washington once again used its veto powers on Sunday to block a resolution calling for an end to the massive ongoing Israeli attacks against the Gaza Strip.

The council has only been able to issue a 'non-binding' statement that calls on Israel to voluntarily bring all its military activities in the besieged region to an immediate end.[read more]

Israel pounds Gaza for second day

By Nidal al-Mughrabi | Reuters | Sunday, December 28, 2008

GAZA (Reuters) - Israel launched air strikes on Gaza for a second day on Sunday, piling pressure on Hamas after killing more than 270 people in one of the bloodiest days in 60 years of conflict between the Palestinians and the Jewish state.

Dozens of Israeli armored vehicles massed along the Gaza border for a possible ground invasion and the U.N. Security Council called early on Sunday for a halt to the violence.

Israeli military affairs commentators said the Israeli offensive did not appear to be aimed at retaking the Gaza Strip or destroying the territory's Hamas government -- ambitious goals that could prove difficult and politically risky to achieve ahead of Israel's February 10 parliamentary election.

Instead, they said, Israel -- after an air bombardment on Saturday -- wanted to strengthen its deterrence power and force Hamas into a new truce that would lead to a long-term halt to cross-border rocket salvoes.

Israel said its warplanes carried out about 100 strikes on Saturday and that Palestinian militants had fired some 70 rockets at the Jewish state, killing one Israeli man.[read more]

Iran critical of US imposing UN Chapter VII on Iraq.

IRNA | Dec 27,2008
Iran is critical of the United States for its attempt to impose UN Chapter VII on Iraq.

Chairman of Iran-Iraq parliamentary friendship group, Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, on Saturday condemned the US for imposing the United Nations Chapter VII on Iraq prior to its security agreement.
Chapter VII deems Iraq as an outlawed country and constrains its political, military and economic activities because of Iraqi invasion of Kuwait under former dictator Saddam Hussein in 1990.

More than five years after the fall of the former dictator and the establishment of a democratically-elected government in that country, the UN has yet to remove Iraq from Chapter VII, he told IRNA.

Iran believes that Chapter VII is the main weak point of US-Iraq security pact as it can damage the country's sovereignty. [ read more ]

Sembah Takziah Atas Kemangkatan DYMM Almarhum Tuanku Ja’afar drp. Ketua Pembangkang Dewan Rakyat.

Al-Fatihah.

UMNO Makes Plans For 2009

This year has placed a very heavy burden on the shoulders of UMNO in getting back the trust of the people, as the pillar of the Barisan Nasional, which is capable of being fair and looking after the welfare of the people in line with its slogan of Dulu, Kini dan Selamanya (Then, Now and Forever).

Having been humbled to become the opposition in Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kelantan and getting routed in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, has served as a useful experience for the largest Malay party, with three million members, to continue to be at the forefront as the leader in the national political arena.

The politics of money that has snaked its way in the party for so long has to be eradicated with full commitment and sacrifice even though the result may be unsavory.

These actions of money politics are worrisome in that they will cause UMNO to be sidelined, giving rise to the suggestion that candidates for the party's highest posts be picked by all UMNO members just like in a general election.

At the same time, various calls were made for the quota system to contest party positions to be abolished on grounds that it restricted contests.

Among those who made the call was Dr Mahathir himself. It was he who introduced the quota system after he was challenged by Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah and almost lost in the 1987 party election.

In July, Abdullah announced a power transition plan to hand over the reins as party president and BN chairman to Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in the middle of next year.

Two months later, the UMNO supreme council made a decision to have the party general assembly in March next year to smoothen an earlier transition of power.

Going into 2009, while waiting for the March party elections, UMNO needs to take organised steps as the bigger challenge is to fulfill the people's aspirations.[read more]

2008: A Year Full Of Political Dramas

Dubbed by political observers as a `political tsunami', the March 8 general election triggered a chain of reactions throughout the year, and placed Malaysia in the "politically unstable" group of countries at one point.

Despite given the mandate to rule the nation for the next five years, it was the BN's worst defeat while the Opposition basked in their winning glories.

BN's failure to retain the usual two-thirds majority was its first since the country's independence 51 years ago.

The 12th general election also saw several BN top leaders being "gunned down" by young and fresh faces fielded by the Opposition including PKR de-facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's daughter Nurul Izzah.

Wearing dazed expressions that lasted for weeks, leaders from both BN and Opposition contemplated their change of fortunes while former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad called for the immediate resignation of his successor Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

In July, Dr Wan Azizah opted to vacate her Permatang Pauh seat to give way for her husband to contest, lending more weight to the political talks that Anwar would indeed become Malaysia's sixth premier come Sept 16.

On Aug 26, Anwar triumphed in the Permatang Pauh by-election. Subsequently, he was appointed as the new Opposition Leader in Dewan Rakyat, while the countdown for Sept 16 echoed strongly throughout the nation bringing about uncertainty among the people.

However, that was three months ago, and today Malaysia is still under Abdullah's leadership while Anwar lingers in the background along with his dream to topple BN government through the backdoor. [read more]

Obama on Gaza: ‘No Comment’

With his silence – or, at least, his very delayed reaction – it seems clear that Obama is taking his own advice. Even as Israel takes the possibility of a new page in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict off the agenda, and sabotages all his brave talk about a renewed US diplomatic effort, the great “liberal” hope is apparently tongue-tied.

And when he finally speaks, “progressives” should prepare for the worst: after all, this is someone who
endorsed the Israeli re-invasion of Lebanon.

The Israeli-Palestinian “peace process”? The Israelis, for their part, are having none of it – and neither is our future President. [read more]

Israel launched air strikes on Gaza city

GAZA, -- Dec 27, 2008

The Israeli occupation forces' raids on the Gaza Strip on Saturday claimed the lives of 155 Palestinians and wounded 800 others, tens of them in serious conditions, medical sources reported.

Muawiya Hasanien, the director of ambulance and emergency in the health ministry, said that the number could rise as the Israeli intensified raids did not cease and there could be many other victims still under the rubble.

Reports said that Tawfik Jabr, the commander of the Palestinian police, and Abu Ahmed Ashur, the governor of the central district, in the Gaza Strip were among the dead.

Angry demonstrations were seen in various West Bank cities immediately after news of the bloody raids were broadcast along with the horrifying images of the bloodbath.

However, the Israeli premier's office said that the air strikes were just the beginning and that other strikes would follow, the quality of which is left to Israeli chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi to decide.

Ashkenazi was quoted by the Hebrew press as saying, "The military has to study the strike's results before deciding on the next stage of the assault". [watch video]

Over 155 Pal. Martyred, 200 Hurt in IAF Gaza Strikes

27/12/2008 Medical sources report at least 155 Palestinians have been killed and over 200 wounded in a series of Israeli occupation Air Force strikes on the Gaza Strip on Saturday.

Gaza health official Moawiya Hassanain confirmed the report, saying 155 Palestinians have been killed in the airstrikes.

The massive Israeli bombardment of Gaza is "only just the beginning," Israeli military spokesman Avi Benayahu told army radio on Saturday.

"This is only just the beginning of an operation launched after a security cabinet decision. It could take time. We have not fixed a timeline and we will act according to the situation on the ground," he said.

A series of Israeli occupation strikes targeted Hamas compounds throughout the Gaza Strip, causing widespread panic, Hamas officials said on Saturday.

Al-Manar correspondent in Gaza said that what is going on is an unprecedented massacre against the Palestinians in the Strip.[read more]

RPK rationalising the issue of HUDUD..

Hudud is the current controversy, the latest Tsunami sweeping this land. But what is the issue? Is it about religion or it is merely politics? The hand is quicker than the eye. And what we see is what our brain tells us to see. We see what the hand waves in front of us. Magic is not magic. Magic is sleight of hand.

A critical analysis of Hudud could lay the matter to rest. Those opposed could become converted if the real issue is explained. But then this will end the confusion. And the objective is not to end the confusion. The game plan is exploitation and deception. That is how ‘good’ politics is played. And there is only one type of politics, the type that wins.

I do not want to explain Hudud. I am not even a Hudud apologist. I can do that if you want me to. It is so crystal clear and extremely simple that it makes me laugh. How can Hudud be an issue? Hudud can be good and can be bad depending on application.  So can the Internal Security Act if you really want to get analytical. Hudud is not about punishment. It is about looking into circumstances. Hudud explores what went wrong and how to put it right. It is not about imposing on society and causing tears to be shed.

Thieves must not be automatically punished under Hudud. The circumstances need to first be explored. Under common law thieves must not escape punishment. The circumstances do not matter. If a thief is a thief because of circumstances then the thief is not a thief and society must instead be punished, as far as Hudud is concerned. Society will be ordered to adopt the thief. The thief will become the ward of the state. And the thief can now leave his life and crime and enter into a life of adoption.

Such is the beauty of Hudud. A thief is not a thief. A thief becomes our adopted child. And if, again, he needs to steal because we have failed him, then we receive punishment instead. The thief loses no limb. But do people understand this? They do not because they are meant to not understand. This is about politics. And politicians are prostitutes. They exploit us and deceive us. And that is a mark of a good politician. [ read more ]

A satisfying victory for the average Malaysian

On March 8 this year, however, during Malaysia's 12th general election, he put an opposition coalition crammed with greenhorn candidates 31 seats away from forming the government. He also gave it five of Malaysia's 13 states, including main cash cows Selangor, Penang and Perak.

BN lost 46 per cent of the popular vote, with 51 per cent of voters in Peninsular Malaysia backing the opposition coalition made up of the very-Muslim Pas, the very-Chinese DAP and the multi-racial Parti Keadilan Rakyat.

In sum, BN got 63 per cent of the ballot, its worst showing since Malaysia gained independence in 1957. The result was even worse than the one BN managed during a strife-torn period in May 1969, when it got at least 66 per cent.

So, March 8 turned assumptions about Malaysians on the head.

Those who were sure Malays would not support the DAP and PKR saw the very-Malay strongholds of Bakri in Johor, Segambut in Kuala Lumpur and Teluk Intan in Perak fall easily to the two parties.[read more]

Somalia: Yusuf 'Pondering Resignation' After U.S., IGAD Pressure

President Yusuf's political misfortune is deeply rooted in the U.S. government's efforts to save face in the waning days of the Bush years.

The use of Ethiopian troops to defeat Somalia's Islamist militia has backfired spectacularly, with Islamists controlling nearly all regions lost before the 2006 war and now poised to overrun Mogadishu.

The Djibouti Agreement gives Ethiopia legal cover to withdraw its troops from Somalia, without any mention of the Ethiopian army's alleged war crimes in Mogadishu and elsewhere on Somali soil.

Ahmadinejad show 'causes offence'

Channel 4 U.K. news broadcast with Dr Mahmoud Ahmadinejad,President of Iran giving a short message of hope and prosperity for Christmas.

BBC News:

Allowing Iran's president to deliver Channel 4's Alternative Christmas Message will cause "international offence", the UK government has said.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was shown telling viewers of the British TV channel "the general will of nations" was for a return to "human values".

The decision angered some MPs, who branded him a "dangerous fanatic" with anti-Semitic and anti-gay views.

Channel 4 said it had offered viewers an "alternative world view".

The speech, in Farsi with English subtitles, was the channel's 16th alternative message and was shown after a brief introduction to Mr Ahmadinejad contextualising his views.

In it, Mr Ahmadinejad congratulated the people of Britain on the anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ.

He said that problems in society were rooted in the rejection of the message of the prophets of God, including Jesus.

And he criticised the "indifference of some governments and powers" towards the teachings of "the divine prophets".[more]

Decline of the USD - Death By Fiat

There's only one thing more dangerous than a man who breaks the law - and that's a man who MAKES the law - because NO ONE is above him.

-------------- courtesy : wakeupfromyourslumber.com

The United States economy is in steep decline.

The signs are all around us - record breaking numbers of foreclosures, jobs being exported left and right, factories shutting down, bankruptcies and homelessness on the rise, and consumer prices and healthcare costs skyrocketing.

To understand HOW we got here, we must understand what RULE of LAW means and how it can be manipulated to serve only special interests such that it becomes indistinguishable from RULE by FIAT.

And just as LAWS decreed by FIAT favor one group of people over others, private MONEY created by FIAT does the same.

Americans cannot remedy the problems that we face as a nation today, unless we realize that our system of democracy is seriously flawed - it enables a corrupt few to RULE by FIAT over the vast majority. [read more]

The current crisis and Obama's Clintonomics team

Bill, like Barack, was elected on a platform of populist economics, then adopted Wall St ideology.

With Barack Obama surrounding himself with Clinton-era economic advisers, many have questioned his commitment to changing the system that led to the current economic crisis. Robert Pollin is one of many who have raised this point. An expert on Clintonomics, Pollin points out the similarities between Obama today and Bill Clinton in 1992, including the voices that they are listening to.

Robert Pollin is Professor of Economics at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He is the founding co-director of the Political Economy Research Institute (PERI). His research centers on macroeconomics, conditions for low-wage workers in the U.S. and globally, the analysis of financial markets, and the economics of building a clean-energy economy in the U.S. His books include A Measure of Fairness: The Economics of Living Wages and Minimum Wages in the US and Contours of Descent: US Economic Fractures and the Landscape of Global Austerity. What is the difference between CD-R and CD-RW?

Both the CD-R and CD-RW CDs look alike, but there are obviously some major differences between them. (They wouldn't have separate names if there wasn't, right?!) We've done several articles on burning lately, so you should be pretty up to par on that, but picking the CDs you are going to use is the next big step. The main difference that comes into play is the quality you will get from each type of CD.

Most people burn CDs to either back up their data or to make a music CD. The CD-R format is a more inexpensive disk with a decent amount of quality. They usually hold between 650 and 700 MB of information. These are good for saving any type of information, but they're better used for school projects, copying games, moving data from one computer to another, etc. If you're not planning on ever erasing the information, you'll want to use a CD-R.[read more]

All you need to know: Treating dry skin

To keep the skin hydrated, drink approximately 2 liters of water every day. Try to avoid indulging in soft drinks, or eating sugar, chocolate, potato chips and other junk foods. Avoid fried foods and animal fats.

Try to avoid alcohol and caffeine as they have a diuretic effect and cause the body to lose fluids and essential minerals.

Avoid smoking and secondhand smoke. Nicotine constricts blood vessels, depriving the skin of the oxygen and nutrients it needs for good health. Smoking also involves the repetition of certain facial expressions which eventually turn into permanent wrinkles around the mouth. Smoking can also result in leathery skin.

Sun exposure can damage the skin and causes dryness, wrinkles, rashes and blisters. Stay out of the sun as much as possible. Always use a good sunscreen on all areas exposed to the sun. [read more]

A Christmas Reminder : Afghan Massacre revisited.

The film was researched by award-winning journalist Najibullah Quraishi. Produced and directed by Irish filmmaker and former BBC producer Jamie Doran, the film tells the story of thousands of prisoners who surrendered to the US military's Afghan allies after the siege of Kunduz.

According to the film, some three thousand of the prisoners were forced into sealed containers and loaded onto trucks for transport to Sheberghan prison. When the prisoners began shouting for air, U.S.- allied Afghan soldiers fired directly into the truck, killing many of them. The rest suffered through an appalling road trip lasting up to four days, so thirsty they clawed at the skin of their fellow prisoners as they licked perspiration and even drank blood from open wounds.

Witnesses say that when the trucks arrived and soldiers opened the containers, most of the people inside were dead. They also say US Special Forces re-directed the containers carrying the living and dead into the desert and stood by as survivors were shot and buried. Now, up to three thousand bodies lie buried in a mass grave.

Outraged human rights groups and lawyers are calling for an investigation but the U.N. special envoy to Afghanistan refuses any U.N.-backed investigation until the Afghan government can protect witnesses. Two of the witnesses in the film have already been killed. The film provides eyewitness testimony that U.S. troops were complicit in the massacre of thousands of Taliban prisoners during the Afghan War.

The film has sent shockwaves around the world. It has been broadcast on national television in Britain, Germany, Italy and Australia. It has been screened by the European parliament. It has outraged human rights groups and international human rights lawyers. They are calling for investigation into whether U.S. Special Forces are guilty of war crimes. [watch video]

The Malaysian Islamic Party, PAS and Kuala Terengganu by election.

The ruling coalition party at the Federal level is the nationalist UMNO (United Malay National Organisation) led Barisan National (Barisan) or National Front. The KT seat is a crucial test for both Pakatan and the Barisan. Both coalitions need the victory to show that they have indeed advanced in terms of voter acceptance and popularity since the March 2008 general election. In particular, because KT has an 88-percent Malay population, the seat is regarded as a key litmus test for Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak, as he is also the incoming UMNO President. In this KT by-election, PAS is representing Pakatan and UMNO is representing Barisan. The norm is that the UMNO President will be the Prime Minister.

PAS isn't the only opposition. It is widely believed that the by election is going to be a six corner fight. The Angkatan Keadilan Insan Malaysia (Akim) party is going to place its Deputy President Harun @ Ab Rahman Mohamad to contest. 'Top Ten' humanitarian crises reveal growing insecurity, neglected health needs
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) releases 11th annual list
New York, NY — Massive forced civilian displacements, violence, and unmet medical needs in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, Iraq, Sudan, and Pakistan, along with neglected medical emergencies in Myanmar and Zimbabwe, are some of the worst humanitarian and medical emergencies in the world, the international medical humanitarian organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) reported today in its annual list of the "Top Ten" humanitarian crises.

The report underscores major difficulties in bringing assistance to people affected by conflict. The lack of global attention to the growing prevalence of HIV-tuberculosis co-infection and the critical need for increased global efforts to prevent and treat childhood malnutrition—the underlying cause of death for up to five million children per year—are also included in the list.

Israel against the United Nations

Richard Falk, UN Special Rapporteur
In recent weeks, numerous voices around the world have started to denounce the Israeli apartheid system and the crimes against humanity that the Zionist state has been committing against the Palestinian people in Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem (Al-Quds).

The response of the Zionist state has been to multiply its insults, provocations and attacks on international organizations, such as the United Nations, and its officials.

The last one of these offences has been the detention at Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv and subsequent expulsion of Richard Falk, the United Nations' Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian Territories. Falk was on his way to the Palestinian occupied territories to carry out his officially mandated functions.[read more]

New "kid" on the blog.

Though the official campaigning will not start until after the nomination day - after the first week of the coming new year. The real campaigning had began immediate after the parliamentary seat was vacant. DS Najib Razak has been there in KT, what thrice??, Ministers and politicians had make "official" statements everywhere on every occasion, where there is a ceremony.

Annual dinners (year end), whether a private or public one, would be lavished in KT this year, weather permitting.

Before all those surfaces, those who follow this blog regularly, may have click on the topmost banner and it took them to a new landing page. It is my new blog, starting with the seat being left vacant for KT P036 by election and posting will ceased after the winning candidate is declared or swore in as an MP, unless something else take place, such as the result becoming a court wrangle. [view the blog, you may like to get into the blog archive]

Soon the Top banner will be taken down and just a small banner placed to link to the blog.

Monitors: LCD vs. CRT

. . . but for now, let's take a look at the following factors before favoring one over the other. Here we go!

Size Does Matter

There’s something to be said about Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitors. To begin, the size is a lot less than what is usually given. For example, if it’s a 32" monitor, it actually means 32" diagonally. However, a 17" CRT monitor will only have a 15.7" viewable diagonal image. This is where LCD monitors score, because they are measured by the actual size of the screen. . . [more]

Computers 101 - SERVERS

Now, there are different types of servers you may have running through your system. One is a print server. That server works with the computer the printer is connected to, so when you go to print something, it's all able to work. Another server is a Web server, which you may have heard more about than others. Those are set in place so that you can visit Web sites everyday. When you type in a URL, that Web site has to send a request to the Web server in order for you to be able to view and browse through it. That's also an example of how fast servers work! . . [more]

RPK - A short history of abusing the Sultan's Name & a petition to curtail that.

Using his name in vain - abridged.

Some years back, the Selangor State Government sacked about seven imams from various mosques all over Selangor on what they said was the instructions of the Selangor palace. My brother and I investigated this matter and found out that the Selangor religious department had complained to the Sultan that these imams were anti-royalty and had used the mosques to spread hate against the Sultan. The religious department asked for the Sultan’s consent to remove these imams, which the Sultan consented to.

The religious department then sacked the imams and said that this was done on the instructions of the Sultan of Selangor. My brother and I were of course extremely perturbed because we personally knew some of these imams and we knew for a fact (since we had gone to pray at these mosques a number of times) that this was not true. The truth was, these imams were PAS members and Umno wanted them removed and they were using the Sultan’s name to do this. . . [read more]
